InfoRoland Gutierrez, 36: Gutierrez, an attorney, first ran for City Council in 2001, but lost to Toni Moorhouse. He also unsuccessfully took on then-County Commissioner Robert Tejeda in 2004. But he finally succeeded in 2005 by defeating incumbent Councilman Ron Segovia in District 3. This time around, he's running unopposed.

As a Texas State Senator, Roland has been a leading voice in the state’s capitol in preventing gun violence. After the Uvalde massacre, Roland fought side by side with the parents and families of the 19 children and 2 teachers to uncover the failures in the Department of Public Safety and state’s response to the shooting.

The son of Mexican immigrants, Roland has spent his whole life fighting to create real change for communities across Texas –from fixing infrastructure to fighting for stronger education. That ’s exactly the kind of fight he’ll bring to the U.S. Senate.

On the San Antonio City Council, Roland brought a brand new library to the southside of San Antonio, the first in over 30 years. Roland spearheaded necessary after school programs and created local incentives for electric and hybrid vehicles.

As State Representative, Roland prioritized mental health programs by establishing the Warrior Resiliency Center in San Antonio to focus on the treatment of PTSD for veterans and all Texans.

Roland pushed the state to provide resources to survivors of sexual assault by creating a crisis call center that provides emotional and legal support. Roland also pioneered the Farmer Suicide Prevention Hotline to address the mental health needs of rural Texans, which has saved 60 lives and counting.

Roland Gutierrez lives with his wife, Sarah, and daughters Izabella and Victoria in San Antonio, Texas.
