Info | Kathryn McGarry is an active volunteer and a community activist who will be strong voice for the residents of Cambridge at Queen’s Park. As a recognized community leader, she has been effective in achieving results in Cambridge, North Dumfries and the Region of Waterloo, on a wide range of issues.
A nurse since 1978, Kathryn has cared for the most vulnerable citizens in our society: critically ill infants, children and adults. Noting the lack of services available to families facing life-threatening illness, Kathryn was a founding member of the Hospice of Waterloo Region.
She has sat on numerous committees dealing with planning issues, social services, transportation, healthcare and cultural heritage, helped organize large fundraising events, and led cultural economic development projects. She has been a tireless voice for heritage preservation having been President of the Heritage Cambridge Board of Directors from 1994-2000. Kathryn is also a Member of the Heritage Planning Advisory Committee of the Region of Waterloo and was Chair of the Heritage Master Plan Steering Committee that developed a municipal strategy for the management of new growth to encourage tourism, while preserving and enhancing the natural and cultural heritage of the area.
Born in Toronto, Kathryn and her husband Fred have raised their three sons in Cambridge and North Dumfries Township since 1988.
