InfoHoward J. Kopel has lived in the 7th Legislative District for over twenty years. A successful businessman, Howard is an attorney who heads Sutton Alliance, a real estate transaction practice in Valley Stream.

Together with his wife, Esther, Howard established Sutton Alliance, a company that had as many as 250 employees in 6 offices, in three states, at its height. Currently, due to today’s local and national economy, the company has had to downsize – but is planning on building again.

As the result of running a business during both good times and bad, Howard possesses excellent management skills, and has a keen understanding of the need to hold expenses below income, and the attitude that the customer (taxpayer, in this sense) must be happy or he/she will go elsewhere. Sadly, the incumbent has forgotten this lesson.

A longtime community advocate, Howard’s candidacy gives the Seventh Legislative District a chance to bring workable solutions that will help solve Nassau County’s problems.

Howard Kopel has a plan to restore our communities to once again be a safe, beautiful, and affordable area to live, work, and play. Howard is committed to restoring our deteriorating parks and open spaces to the jewels they once were. Howard Kopel is also serious about cutting $20 million of wasteful spending of taxpayer money on political patronage employing his opponent’s cronies.

Howard Kopel is committed to solving Nassau County’s fiscal problems – but not on the backs of hardworking families and taxpayers. Howard will repeal the “Toback Tax” – a 2.5% mandatory surcharge on all forms of home heating energies (such as oil, electric, gas, wind…even firewood and solar energy).

As a businessman, Kopel knows that you can’t spend your way out of a problem. The $1.4 million increase in spending during his opponent’s tenure is part of the problem. Nassau County now has a $130 million budget deficit. Kopel has brought solutions to the table; his decade-long opponent continues to point fingers and blame others.

Just like most people in Nassau County, Howard Kopel understands how the never-ending annual property reassessment scheme hurts homeowners and working families. That’s why Kopel has vowed to reform the broken reassessment practice within the first year of his term.

A graduate of Brooklyn College, Howard Kopel earned his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science before graduating Brooklyn Law School. Today, Howard is admitted to practice law in New York State and the United States Southern District.

Howard Kopel has been married for over 35 years to his loving wife, Esther, and has four children and five grandchildren. He is a congregant at several local synagogues, and a member of various local fraternal, service, and community organizations. For the past three years, Mr. Kopel has served as a trustee of the Valley Stream Chamber of Commerce.
