MARYLIN SHANNON
Returning Common Sense to Government

Senator Marylin Shannon has built a growing reputation for bringing a common sense approach to governmental problems. She's also seen as one of the most tenacious members of the legislature when it comes to controlling government spending and cutting government waste.

Senator Shannon's first priority in Congress will be to bring a common sense approach to education; to urge and encourage a return to teaching basics; putting an end to federal government bureaucrats meddling in the curriculums of local schools; and working to get tax dollars out of the bureaucracy and into the classrooms.

The former teacher and mother of three will be an advocate for more parental involvement in curriculum decisions; and more flexibility in education opportunities for our children.

She will also work to provide local communities and schools with more resources and better tools to fight the spread of illegal drug use.

Senator Shannon's second priority is to bring common sense to tax reform. She is a strong advocate for eliminating the "death tax"; lowering the tax burden for working families; and for overhauling the IRS and the overwhelmingly complicated tax code.

Here's how Oregonians look at Senator Shannon's record:

Oregon Farm Bureau gave Senator Shannon its only A+ rating.
National Federation of Independent Businesses gave her their coveted "Guardian of Small Business" award.
Association of Builders and Contractors gave her a perfect rating.
Salem Area Military Order of the Purple Heart Veterans made Senator Shannon their first ever Honorary Member.
Oregon Truckers Association named her "Legislator of the Year".
Oregon Rehabilitation Association honored her as "Legislator of the Year".
Oregonians for Food and Shelter gave her an A+ rating and their special "Star of the Session" award.
Associated Industries of Oregon gave her their highest rating; 90 percent.
NRA rated Senator Shannon A+.
Previously endorsed by the Oregon Council of Police Associations; Oregon Police Chiefs for Safer Communities.
"Senator Shannon will fight in Washington, DC, to get our fair share of the new transportation dollars that should be returned to Oregon for the repair and improvement of our highway system." State Senator Gary George

"Senator Marylin Shannon is a bright star in the legislative universe. Whenever Oregon farmers and ranchers needed help, they could find it with Senator Shannon. She is a legislator who always stays in touch with her constituents." Oregon Farm Bureau News, July 22, 1997
