InfoHuey P. Long began serving in the position of City Manager-Elect for the City of Safford on October 4, 2004. He assumed the City Manager position on January 8, 2005.



Mr. Long was born in Atoka, Oklahoma. He followed in the footsteps of his father, Huey Long, as a second-generation public administrator. He served as city manager of Spencer, Coalgate, Del City, Moore, Mustang, Oklahoma and county administrator of La Paz County, Arizona. Huey married Tari S. Norton in 1969. They have a son, Bryan P. Long, city manager of Oak Grove, Missouri and daughter, Teresa R. Long, of Mustang, Oklahoma and five grandchildren.



At the age of twenty-one (21) Huey was acknowledged as the youngest public administrator in the United States. He began his career in 1970. Upon graduation from the University of Central Oklahoma, 1974, with a degree in General Education, He continued to faithfully serve the public through various administrative positions in the City of Oklahoma City, Sapulpa, Broken Arrow and other cities across the State of Oklahoma.



Mr. Long has been active in the International City Management Association, Oklahoma City Management Association, Oklahoma Municipal League, Canadian County Water Resource Alliance, Mustang/Parker Chamber of Commerce, Arizona Counties Insurance Pool, and Arizona County Manager’s Association. In May of 2001, Mr. Long was inducted into the Mustang Chamber of Commerce “Hall of Fame” for his community leadership and vision in providing a high standard of governmental services, and a better quality of life for the people of Mustang, Oklahoma.



While serving as city manager of Mustang, Oklahoma, Huey improved public services and implemented capital improvements. Public projects such as water resources, wastewater treatment facilities, roads and highways, economic development programs, public safety facilities, leisure service projects, and the Vision 2000 “Mustang Town Square” development project. Mustang, Oklahoma is acclaimed as one of the state’s fastest growing communities and located in the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area. These improvements were the result of making local government work effectively, efficiently and economically for the people, who in turn registered their confidence by approving the capital improvement projects.
