Info | Born on June 7, 1854 in Blair County, Pennsylvania. Moved to Dixon, Illinois in 1856 with his parents. After graduating from Knox College in Galesburg he moved to Woosung, Illinois where he lived and worked as a very successful farmer. He served many years as a member of the Ogle County Board of Supervisors and served as board chairman for one term. He served in the Illinois State House representing the 10th District from 1887-1889, 1891-1895, and again from 1901-1905. In 1906 he ran an unsuccessful but competitive bid for the U.S. House being vacated by Rep. Robert R. Hitt. He came within 4 points of winning in the heavily Republican district.
