Info | Jim Jordan is serving his second term in the Ohio Senate and is a Republican Candidate for Congress in the 4th District of Ohio. He was first elected to the Ohio House in 1994, where he served three terms before winning a hotly-contested Republican primary for the State Senate in 2000.
Jordan is a proven conservative who, throughout his service at the statehouse, has worked tirelessly to defend the families and taxpayers of Ohio by leading the fight against higher taxes and standing up for traditional American values.
Jordan was raised in Champaign County, Ohio, graduating from Graham High School in 1982, where he was a four-time state champion in wrestling with a career record of 150-1. He went on to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Wisconsin, where he was a two-time NCAA wrestling champion. He later earned a Master’s degree in Education from the Ohio State University and a Law Degree from Capital University in Columbus, Ohio.
From his first day in office, Jim Jordan began making a difference on issues that matter most to Ohio’s families. Jordan’s amendment to the Welfare Reform Bill of 1996 limited the amount of time able-bodied individuals could remain on welfare. He also authored the Income Tax Reduction Fund which required that surplus state revenue be used to reduce state income tax rates instead of spending it on more government programs.
Jordan is a fiscal conservative who believes that families and taxpayers, rather than government, know best how to make decisions with their money. In the past ten years, Jim Jordan has led the fight against efforts to raise taxes, including tax increases proposed by leaders of his own political party. Jim Jordan believes that cutting taxes and letting families keep more of what they earn helps build strong communities and a vibrant economy.
Jim Jordan was named Pro-Life legislator of the Year and won the Defender of Life award for his unwavering commitment to protecting the sanctity of human life. He is a trusted leader on family issues like defending traditional marriage and giving parents the tools they need to help build a brighter future for their children.
Jim and his wife Polly are the parents of four children. The Jordan family lives near Urbana and attend Grace Bible Church.
