InfoTonie Nathan is a woman of many "firsts." In 1972 she won the nomination as the first Vice-Presidential candidate of the Libertarian Party and then went on to receive the first Electoral College vote ever awarded a woman in the history of the United States. In 1973 she founded and became the first president of the Association of Libertarian Feminists. In 1975 she became the first Libertarian on national television (TODAY SHOW-1975) and in 1976 was the first Libertarian to be featured in an international magazine (OUI MAGAZINE). In 1989 Tonie became the first media relations director of the Libertarian Party and succeeded in generating national interest in the party. Tonie Nathan has run for public office six times and in 1980 debated Bob Packwood in a race for the U.S.Senate when, according to an Oregon statewide newspaper headline, she "skewered her opponents." Before becoming involved with the Libertarian Party, Tonie had a busy career owning and operating three businesses--an insurance agency, a music publishing and promotion firm and a decorating service. After spending most of her life in the Los Angeles area, she received her BA from the University of Oregon in journalism and communications and went on produce and host a daily television show on the NBC affilliate and on several radio stations in Eugene, ORegon. She has been published widely by such periodicals as the Wall Street Journal and the L.A.Times, and is author of a limited edition book, "On Libertarianism, Historical notes and articles." She is presently finishing a new book and is also trying to find time to market a new musical by her composer-husband, Charles. She still lives in Eugene with her husband, three children and two grandchildren
