Info | Appointed director of the Bureau of Rehabilitation Services in 2004, Jill Duson is relishing the challenge of leading an organization of 150 employees. A former public interest attorney, government relations and organizational development consultant, former mayor, and current Portland city councilor, Duson has pursued both a successful professional career and a calling to community service, always with the goal of making a difference in people's lives. She is known as a community leader who can be counted on for candid insights and realistic recommendations.
For the first decade of her career, she worked principally as an advocate in elderly issues and rights in a series of positions: as program director and staff attorney for the Delaware County Legal Assistance Association; assistant staff director for the Commission on Legal Problems of the Elderly of the American Bar Association; director of the Home Equity Conversion Project in the Bureau of Maine's Elderly; and as director of the Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program of the Maine Committee on Aging.
During her current tenure as a Portland city councilor, Jill Duson has gained a reputation for her emphasis on involving people from all walks of life in the decision processes that will affect their lives.
