Info | Frank A. LoBiondo was first sworn in as a member of the 104th Congress on January 4, 1995 and is now serving his fifth consecutive term. The Congressman has been selected to serve on the newly created Terrorism, Unconventional Threats and Capabilities Subcommittee and the Tactical Air & Land Forces Subcommittee of the House Armed Services Committee. He was also named to serve on the Highways and Transit Subcommittee of the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee. He continues to serve as Chairman of the House Coast Guard Subcommittee and as a member of the Aviation Subcommittee.
Congressman LoBiondo is considered fiscally conservative and a moderate on most social issues. Frank is well known in his district for his easy accessibility and informal, friendly style. His broad appeal bridges all socio-economic groups. He is endorsed by both business and labor groups because he is a tireless advocate for jobs and economic growth in his district.
LoBiondo is deeply committed to protecting the environment and works to protect fragile wetlands as well as for projects to restore and protect the New Jersey coast. As a result of his work to protect the environment, Frank was named an Environmental Champion by the League of Conservation Voters in June of 2002. Frank LoBiondo is also deeply involved in issues that impact the gaming industry and is founder and member of the Congressional Gaming Caucus.
Congressman LoBiondo has received many awards for his public service including, the Taxpayer Hero Award from the Citizens Against Government Waste, the 2000 Pinnacle Award Legislator of the Year from the Southern New Jersey Chamber of Commerce, recognition by the Wilderness Society for working to protect our national wildlife refuges, Guardian of Small Business from the National Federation of Independent Business, Super Friend of Seniors by the 60 Plus Association, Humane Legislator of the Year by the American Humane Society, Friend of Education Award from the Bridgeton Board of Education and recognition for his work to help health centers in the State of New Jersey survive from the New Jersey Primary Care Association and the Federally Qualified Health Care Centers. In addition, Frank has been named Citizen of the Year by the New Jersey Broadcasters Association, a Friend of the National Parks Award from the National Parks Conservation Association, the March of Dimes FDR Award for Community Service and the Watchdog of the Treasury Award.
Frank LoBiondo won by landslide proportions in each of his elections to Congress. He won the 1994 General Election with almost 65% of the vote. Frank received over 61% of the head to head vote with his nearest opponent in the 1996 General Election. He received 68% of the head to head vote in the 1998 and 2000 General Elections and 69% of the vote in the 2002 General Election.
Prior to his election to Congress in 1994, LoBiondo served seven years in the New Jersey General Assembly (1988 -1994) representing the First Legislative District. Congressman LoBiondo served one three year term on the Cumberland County Board of Chosen Freeholders (1985 -1987) prior to being elected to the New Jersey General Assembly.
Southern New Jersey has been Frank LoBiondo's home all his life and he has been actively involved in numerous civic and charitable efforts in the area. He was President of the Cumberland County Guidance Center and is a Rotarian. Frank also serves or has served on the boards of a number of community organizations including the Cape May County Chapter of the Literacy Volunteers of America and the Vineland Young Men's Christian Association. He has championed a number of charitable causes, serving as the Honorary Chairman of the annual Cumberland County Hospice fund raising drive and as the Chairman of the Cumberland County Chapter of the American Heart Association.
LoBiondo received a B.A. in Business Administration from St. Joseph's University in Philadelphia. In addition to his work in public service, Frank LoBiondo has had a successful career as a small businessman, working 26 years at his family owned and operated trucking company.
