InfoBustos is the Vice President of Public Affairs & Communications for Iowa Health System. Prior to that, she was a journalist for 17 years, reporting on crime, city and state government, health and other issues of importance. She uncovered governmental corruption and helped look out for the underdog through her investigative reporting and column writing. She was recognized for her work through many journalism awards.

Bustos volunteers with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Junior Achievement, the YMCA, where she was recognized last year for raising the most money for its annual fund-raising campaign to benefit needy families. She serves on the board of directors for Skip-A-Long Child Development Services, the state's largest downstate child-care organization, where she has been selected to serve on its executive committee; WVIK public radio, where she is also the board's vice president; and The Women's Connection, the Quad-City's largest women's organization. She is also vice president of that board of directors.

Additionally, Bustos is a delegate of the Illinois Women's Institute for Leadership and is a graduate of the Illinois Quad-City Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy. She was honored as the Volunteer of the Year for her work with the Bowlesburg Elementary School PTA when her children attended there.

She earned her bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Maryland and her master's degree in journalism from University of Illinois at Springfield. As a collegiate athlete, she was inducted into the Illinois College Sports Hall of Fame.

Bustos comes from a long line of public servants. Her grandfather, Joe Callahan, served in the Illinois House of Representatives, only the second Democrat in his county's history to be elected to the state legislature. Her father, Gene Callahan, was the press secretary and administrative assistant for the late Paul Simon and chief of staff for former U.S. Sen. Alan J. Dixon, both long-serving Illinois Democrats. Her husband, Gerry, is a lieutenant with the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department and is the founder and commander of the Quad-City Bomb Squad.

Bustos, is the mother of three sons: Tony, an engineer in Minnesota; Nick, a freshman at Illinois College in Jacksonville; and Joey, a junior at United Township High School.
