Bolton), a Representative from Ohio; born in Cleveland, Ohio, September 5, 1882; attended the public schools; was graduated from the University School, Cleveland, Ohio, in 1901 and from Harvard University in 1905; employed in the steel industry in Cleveland 1905-1917; member of the Ohio National Guard 1905-1915; commissioned a captain in the Reserve Corps and ordered into active service in March 1917; detailed first to the War Industries Board, then served as aide to the Assistant Secretary of War; transferred to the General Staff in 1917; promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel and detailed to the One Hundred and First Division as Assistant Chief of Staff; discharged in December 1918; returned to Cleveland, Ohio, and served as a director of several large business corporations; also engaged in raising and breeding cattle; member of the Lyndhurst Village Council 1918-1921; served in the State senate 1923-1928, serving as president pro tempore in 1927 and 1928; delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1928; elected as a Republican to the Seventy-first and to the three succeeding Congresses (March 4, 1929-January 3, 1937); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1936 to the Seventy-fifth Congress; served as chairman of the Republican Congressional Campaign Committee in 1934 and 1936; resumed his former business pursuits; elected to the Seventy-sixth Congress and served from January 3, 1939, until his death in Cleveland, Ohio, October 29, 1939; interment in Lake View Cemetery.
