Info | SITTLER, Edward Lewis, Jr., a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Greensburg, Westmoreland County, Pa., April 21, 1908; moved with his parents to Uniontown, Fayette County, Pa., in August 1908; attended the public schools; A.B., Brown University, Providence, R.I., in 1930; salesman for an ice cream company 1931-1937; elected to the Uniontown School Board in 1934 and served as president of the board in 1936 and 1937; became field underwriter for Mutual Life Insurance Co. of New York in 1937; enlisted as a private in the United States Army in February 1943 and served in the Ordnance Department in the European Theater until released to the Inactive Reserve as a captain in August 1946; mayor of Uniontown 1948-1951; elected as a Republican to the Eighty-second Congress (January 3, 1951-January 3, 1953); unsuccessful candidate for reelection in 1952 to the Eighty-third Congress; resumed insurance business; served as Republican State committeeman for Fayette County, 1960-1972; minority Fayette County Commissioner, 1968-1971; resided in Uniontown, Pa., until his death in Pittsburgh, Pa., December 26, 1978; interment in Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown, Pa.
