Mr. Roger Tackett was born in Scioto County, Ohio and graduated from Portsmouth West High School. After high school, Mr. Tackett worked for the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 18 as a construction worker.
Mr. Tackett entered the United States Marine Corps in 1966. He was wounded in Vietnam and is a purple heart recipient. He has twice been named Ohio's Outstanding Disabled American Veteran.
He graduated from Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science. Mr. Tackett has been elected as a County Commissioner five times and presently serves as the President of the Board of County Commissioners for Clark County, Ohio.
Mr. Tackett is heavily involved in community affairs and Veteran's affairs. He has been Chairman of the United Way Public and Civic Divisions for Clark County. He has served on the Miami Valley Council on Aging and the Clark County Council on Aging. He has served as the Vice Chairman of the Steering Committee for Air Quality for the Miami Valley. He has also served as the Chairman of the Energy and Environment Steering Committee for the National Association of Counties. He is currently serving as a member of the Board of Directors of the County Commissioners Association of Ohio.
In 1984, Ohio Governor Richard Celeste appointed Mr. Tackett as his Administrative Assistant for the Governor's Office of Veterans Affairs. In that capacity he assisted over 2000 veterans in Ohio to obtain and retain employment. As a Vietnam veteran, Mr. Tackett has worked particularly hard to obtain funding for the VA Hospital in Dayton, Ohio and to fund local Memorial Day services.
Mr. Tackett has received the No Greater Love Award from 7th District Congressman Clarence J. Brown for his community contributions.
Mr. Tackett values the importance of his family. He and his wife Martha have been married for 33 years and have two children, Michelle and Roger Jr.
