Dispatch 1861-1870; studied law; was admitted to the bar and commenced practice in Mercer in 1871; elected as a Republican to the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses (March 4, 1881-March 3, 1885); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1884; resumed the practice of law in Mercer; president judge of the several courts of Mercer County, Pa., 1894-1904; resumed the practice of law; elected to the Sixty-fourth Congress (March 4, 1915-March 3, 1917); declined to be a candidate for renomination in 1916; resumed the practice of his profession; died in Mercer, Pa., September 4, 1918; interment in Mercer Cemetery.
