Info | LILLY, William, a Representative from Pennsylvania; born in Penn Yan, Yates County, N.Y., June 3, 1821; moved to Carbon County, Pa., in 1838; elected colonel of one of the militia regiments of the Lehigh Valley and subsequently brigadier general; member of the State house of representatives in 1850 and 1851; was a Democrat until 1862, when he affiliated with the Republican Party; delegate to six Republican National Conventions; delegate at large to the convention to revise the constitution of Pennsylvania in 1872 and 1873; engaged in the mining of anthracite coal; elected as a Republican to the Fifty-third Congress and served from March 4, 1893, until his death in Mauch Chunk, Pa., December 1, 1893; interment in the City Cemetery.
