| Info | Like her husband, Marty Kilgore is a Scott County native. She is a 1983 graduate of Gate City High School and in 1987 earned a bachelor's degree in middle school education at what is now The University of Virginia's College at Wise. The Kilgores were wed in 1990 and have two children, 12-year-old Clarke and 9-year-old Kelsey.
A school teacher like her mother and grandmother before her, she taught in Scott County schools until her husband's political career vaulted the family to Richmond. She served as deputy secretary of the commonwealth during the Gilmore administration and until Monday was executive director of the Tobacco Settlement Foundation, a state agency that seeks to educate children about the hazards of tobacco.
Helping promote her husband's campaign message includes promotion of his merit pay plan for public school teachers. Jerry Kilgore has proposed a performance pay plan to boost the pay of the best school teachers, as well as state bonuses for teachers who advance their own education and those who serve in rural or distressed school divisions.
