InfoBill and Crissy Haslam have been married for 29 years, since they graduated from college. They have two daughters, Annie and Leigh, a son Will and his wife Hannah. Bill is an elder at Cedar Springs Presbyterian Church and has been involved in Young Life and many faith-based organizations over the years. One of his greatest joys was coaching his kids’ sports teams. You’ll like him; he’s a good man.

Now in his seventh year as the successful mayor of Knoxville, Bill has changed the spirit of the city. Now it’s positive, upbeat and proud. He’s a great listener — knows when to listen and when to lead. When he became mayor, the city had serious financial problems. Now, Knoxville is on solid ground, debt has been reduced, property taxes are at the lowest rate in more than 50 years and the city has the highest credit rating in its history. As a result of his leadership, Knoxville has repeatedly been named as one of the top 10 metropolitan areas for business and expansion.

The day Bill started working with his dad and brother at Pilot Travel Centers, the company operated in a few southeastern states. Bill helped lead the company for the next 18 years. Now Pilot has more than 14,000 employees at more than 300 locations in 39 states. It was Bill who picked many of the sites for expansion, driving growth and creating new jobs. He ran operations, making sure the Pilot Centers were ready to serve customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. That’s good experience for public service, don’t you think?
