Info | a Representative from Colorado; born in Harrodsburg, Mercer County, Ky., April 3, 1847; moved in early youth with his parents to Missouri; attended the common schools; served four years in the Confederate Army during the Civil War; studied law; was admitted to the bar in 1868 and commenced practice in Lexington, Mo., the following year; moved to Baxter Springs, Kans., in 1873 and resumed the practice of law; moved to Leadville, Colo., in 1879 and continued the practice of his profession; was also interested in mining; judge of the court of records of Lake County in 1881 and 1882; moved to Aspen, Pitkin County, Colo., in 1885 and became largely interested in the development of mining projects; elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-first and Sixty-second Congresses (March 4, 1909-March 3, 1913); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1912; returned to Colorado and settled in Denver; resumed the practice of his profession; died near Mount Morrison, Jefferson County, Colo., on July 19, 1924; interment in the Littleton Cemetery, Littleton, Arapahoe County, Colo.
