| Info | Sheila M. Riggs, DMSc, is Vice President, Health Care Measurement and Reporting and Executive Director of The Wellmark Foundation. As an Iowa native, Sheila received her first doctorate degree from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and is licensed to practice dentistry in Iowa. Dr. Riggs went on to earn her Doctorate of Medical Sciences (DMSc) in Epidemiology from Harvard University. She maintains faculty appointments at her alma maters. Dr. Riggs joined Wellmark in 1995 and currently serves two roles; vice president, health care measurement and reporting in the Division of Health Management and executive director of the Wellmark Foundation. Sheila leads the analytic initiatives that drive the work of the division. She also directs the reporting of the division's initiatives to our members, customers, communities, and stakeholders throughout Iowa and South Dakota. Sheila serves on numerous professional and health care boards and advisory committees. Dr. Riggs is a member of the corporate board of Delta Dental of Minnesota. She has served as Chair of two state health-care initiatives. As chairwoman of Healthy Iowans 2010, she led a group of 500 Iowans developing a 23-chapter plan to advance the boundaries of healthy living and the quality of life, as well as to eliminate health disparities in the new decade. She also chaired Iowans United for a Healthy Future, a group of 45 organizations whose initial focus was to ensure that tobacco settlement funds were earmarked to promote health and a long-term goal to prevent tobacco use and ensure the social, behavior, mental and physical well-being of all Iowans. Dr. Riggs currently serves as the City of Ames representative on the Story County ASSET Board. Recently, Sheila was recognized as one of the ten Most Influential Women in Central Iowa by the Business Record. And Dr. Riggs is the first recipient of the Minnette Doderer Award for Outstanding Statewide Leadership to recognize her contributions to the Iowa Democratic Party.
