InfoBorn on August 1, 1954, Bernard Barré resides in Saint-Hyacinthe and has called himself a Maskoutan all of his life. Bernard graduated from the Human Sciences Program at CEGEP Bourgchemin in Saint-Hyacinthe and went on to obtain his National Coaching Certification Program level 5 certification in sports sciences, becoming the first Quebecer from any sport to have attained this level.

In 1988, Bernard became City councillor for the ward of La Providence and has enjoyed numerous terms as deputy mayor. Bernard has also served as Vice-president of the organizing committee for the Fête National in Saint-Hyacinthe since 2003.

An avid fan of boxing, Bernard has held the position of Operations and Recruiting Vice-president of the GYM Inc. Group, a professional boxing promoter, since 2004. In addition to serving as Coaching Workshops Director for Boxe Québec, Bernard has been a boxing analyst for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and Le Réseau de l’information (RDI) since 1990. Bernard also spends time as a reporter for the specialized publication Ringside, and as a casual boxing analyst for RDS as well as for Québec channels TVA, TQS, Canal Indigo, Canal Vox, LCN and Vu.

Bernard and his wife, Lysanne McDermott, are co-owners of a restaurant and are the parents of three children, Kim, Emmy and Jani. They also have four grandchildren, Tali, Matt, Shad and Alix.
