InfoGlenn Hagel was born and raised in rural Alberta and came to Moose Jaw to work and raise a family in 1973. Minister Hagel holds a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from the University of Manitoba and a partial Bachelor of Social Work Degree from the University of Regina.

Mr. Hagel was first elected to the Legislative Assembly in 1986, re-elected in 1991, 1995, 1999, and 2003. He served as Caucus Chair from 1988 -1996. In February 1996, Mr. Hagel became the first Speaker in Saskatchewan to be elected by his house colleagues in a private ballot. Mr. Hagel was the first Speaker in Canada to start an educational parliamentary outreach program, which took him to over 200 Saskatchewan schools, speaking with over 10,000 Saskatchewan students.

Mr. Hagel was first appointed to cabinet in 1999 as Minister responsible for Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training. Since then, Mr. Hagel has served as Minister of Social Services and Housing, Career and Employment Programs, Minister Responsible for Disability Issues and Sask Gaming Corp, and Deputy Government House Leader. Mr. Hagel was also Chair of the Cabinet’s Planning and Priorities Committee.

In November 2003, Mr. Hagel was appointed Legislative Secretary to the Premier with the responsibility for coordinating Saskatchewan’s Centennial Celebrations in 2005. During this same time, Mr. Hagel also served as a member of the Public Service Committee.

Most recently, on February 2, 2006, Mr. Hagel was re-appointed to Cabinet as the Minister for Culture, Youth, and Recreation; Provincial Secretary; Minister Responsible for SGI, Gaming, and Sask Tourism Authority; Government House Leader; and member of the Board of Internal Economy.

Glenn and his wife Karen make their home in Moose Jaw and have two adult daughters.
