InfoFormer Saskatchewan MLA. Osika was elected as a Liberal and proceeded to join the other MLAs of his party in forming a coalition with the NDP, which had a very precarious minority government following the 1999 election. He was booted out of the party for refusing to leave the coalition and sat as an Independent. As part of the coalition arrangement he held such positions as Speaker of the Legislature and various cabinet postings between 1999 and 2003. He decided to run for the NDP in the 2003 election but was redistricted into the new riding of Melville-Saltcoats, where he was defeated by incumbent Saltcoats MLA Bob Bjornerud of the Saskatchewan Party.
