InfoRod Gantefoer was born on May 15, 1947 in Watson. In 1995, Rod was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the first time. As a founding member of the Saskatchewan Party, Rod was instrumental in all aspects of its development.

During his time in the legislature, Rod’s shadow cabinet critic duties have included Finance, Economic Development, Environment & Resource Mgmt, Labour, Crown Investments Corporation, and Health. He also served as the Chair of the Public Accounts Committee and Vice-Chair of the Standing Committee on Health and Human Services. Rod is currently the Learning (K-12) Critic, Deputy Health Critic, and House Leader for the Official Opposition Caucus.

Rod and his wife Carole have resided in Melfort since 1980, where they experienced the joy of raising three daughters. Their family now consists of: daughter Laurie, her husband Mike McKerracher, their children Hayley, Scott, and Rachael; daughter Pattie, her husband Tim Draude, their son Grant; and daughter Bonnie and husband Sam Nayet.

After three years of post-secondary schooling, Rod farmed in the Kelvington area for approximately 10 years. His experience in the agricultural sector included being the founding President and Chairman of Plains Poultry Ltd. After moving to Melfort in 1980, Rod and Carole operated a small business for 25 years.

A deep sense of commitment led to Rod’s involvement in the Melfort community where he served as: Melfort School Division’s Finance and Board Chairman; member of Melfort Post-Secondary Education Committee; Project Developer Consolation Manor – Seniors and Family Housing Complex; Past President for Melfort and District Chamber of Commerce; Co-Chair Sask Business and Education Symposium; and member of the Provincial Advisory Committee on Store Hours.
