InfoMaynard Sonntag was first elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature in 1991 and was re-elected in 1995, 1999, and 2003. Mr. Sonntag has served as a member of Treasury Board, Crown Investments Corporation, Investment Board, and vice-chairperson of the Cabinet Committee on the Economy.

Maynard was first appointed to cabinet in June 1997 as Minister for SPMC, Sask Water Corporation, and Sask Liquor and Gaming Authority. He was appointed as Minister of Post-Secondary Education and Skills Training in September 1998. On September 30, 1999, Maynard was appointed Minister of Highways and Transportation while continuing to serve as chairperson for the Sask Water Corporation.

In 2001, Mr. Sonntag was appointed Minister of Energy and Mines and later added the portfolio for Crown Investments Corporation. In November 2003, Mr. Sonntag was appointed as Minister of Aboriginal Affairs and Minister Responsible for SaskTel. In February 2004, Mr. Sonntag was also appointed as Minister of Highways & Transportation and Minister Responsible for SGI and STC. Mr. Sonntag is a member of the Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Infrastructure.

In October 2004, Aboriginal Affairs became a stand-alone department and was renamed First Nations and Métis Relations. In February 2006, Mr. Sonntag was appointed Minister of Crown Investments Corporation while also continuing to serve as Minister of First Nations and Métis Relations.

Maynard, along with his twin sister, is the eldest of seven children. He was raised and educated in Goodsoil, Sask. Prior to being elected, Mr. Sonntag was a manager in the Credit Union system from 1980 to 1991. Maynard and his wife Virginia have two children: Mayson and Meika.
