InfoMitch Murphy was born in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, on October 28, 1962.

Mr. Murphy attended the University of Prince Edward Island and obtained a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1984 and a Bachelor of Education Degree in 1985. He received his Masters of Education from Saint Mary’s University in 1993.

On November 26, 1996, Mr. Murphy was appointed Minister of Community Affairs and Attorney General; Minister Responsible for Acadian and Francophone Affairs; and also as Government House Leader. On July 31, 1998, Mr. Murphy was appointed Minister of Technology and Environment, and maintained responsibility for Acadian and Francophone Affairs. In May 2000, Mr. Murphy was appointed Minister of Agriculture and Forestry and again maintained responsibility for Acadian and Francophone Affairs. Following the Province General Election of September 29, 2003, Mr. Murphy was re-appointed to Cabinet as Provincial Treasurer, Minister Responsible for the Public Service Commission, and also Minister Responsible for the PEI Harness Racing Commission.

An active member in his community, Mr. Murphy has served on various community boards. He is a member of the Holy Family Church in Kensington.

Mitch and his wife, Anne Marie, reside in Kensington with their two daughters, Emily and Mairead.
