High School in 1915 and from Mayfield Business College; served as bookkeeper, cashier, and trust officer of the First National Bank of Mayfield, Ky., 1917-1936; served as secretary-treasurer of the Mayfield Board of Education 1923-1936; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-fifth and to the ten succeeding Congresses (January 3, 1937-January 3, 1959); unsuccessful candidate for renomination in 1958 to the Eighty-sixth Congress; engaged in banking and general investments; died in Mayfield, Ky., September 26, 1971; interment in Maplewood Cemetery.
