InfoRev. Jarrett B. Maupin II was elected to his first term in 2006 representing Ward 2. Maupin’s ward includes South Mountain and Bioscience High Schools. Maupin, 19, was believed to be the youngest elected official in Arizona when he took office. Two years earlier, he ran for the Phoenix City Council. A minister and civil/human rights activist, Maupin is the southwest regional director for the National Action Network, an activist group founded by Rev. Al Sharpton. He was also a local radio host on Air America. Maupin graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Phoenix and is taking college classes. His term expires in 2010.

“A Catalyst for Change” -Superb Intellect, Enormous Drive, Impeccable Judgment & Immense Commitment-

Jarrett is a dedicated professional with a broad spectrum of management, community activism, advocacy, and political experience that integrates intelligence and personal drive with lifelong interest for helping others.

Jarrett’s keen analytical ability and visionary leadership has been shaped by his childhood and early life experiences. Born in Phoenix, Arizona, Jarrett began his life as an advocate for change at the tender age of six. Reverend Maupin never looked back and began a whirlwind of public speaking, preaching, and advocacy – in a fight for student accommodations – at an age when most kids are still losing baby teeth.

Throughout his early childhood he participated in the struggle to establish a Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday in Arizona. This was the “Rev’s” first chance to meet and work along side many of his life’s heroes. Jarrett is proud to have been fostered in leadership under the guidance of such civil rights luminaries as Dolores Huerta and the Reverends Jesse Jackson and Leon Sullivan; growing and learning in the movement for human rights started by Dr. King.

That was just the beginning. A minister since the age of 12, community advocate, and civil rights advocate, Maupin has become a catalyst for change in the lives of the disenfranchised and overlooked communities though-out his native Phoenix and the nation.

Reverend Maupin now serves as:

• a National Board Member National Action Network & President/CEO of the Arizona Chapter of the National Action Network (founded by the Rev. Al Sharpton)
• Executive Board Member for SOMOS AMERICA
• Member of Revival for Social Justice in the Black Church (RSJBC)
• Board Member of the Mexican American Political Association (MAPA of Arizona)
• Member of the Arizona Hispanic Community Forum
• Member of the American Legion Post 41
• Associate Minister at the Emmanuel Church in Phoenix

His commitment to community has also allowed him to be a member of several corporate diversity & civic development boards.

In 2006, Jarrett became one of the youngest Arizonans ever elected to public office after winning a four year term on the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board. As a voice for the voiceless, a fighter of injustice, a non-violent keeper of the “DREAM” of Dr. King, Maupin’s commitment to equality is seemingly endless. This has gained him national attention as one of America’s next great leaders. He has frequently been called upon to serve as a featured guest and commentator on several high-profile news outlets including

• MSNBC
• CNN
• FOX
• BET
• TV ONE

Join us as we support Jarrett’s campaign for safer neighborhoods, reduced crime, increased job opportunities, and broad reaching and diverse economic development.
