InfoMark Chang is a life-long Glen Burnie resident, a Maryland State Delegate, a proud Democrat, and is now running to become Maryland’s first ever Asian-American Member of Congress.

Mark knows the struggles Maryland families face. His parents immigrated here in the mid-1970s from war-torn South Korea and opened a corner carry-out in an underserved area of Annapolis. His mom died of a brain aneurysm when Mark was young, leaving his dad the family’s sole breadwinner.

Mark watched his father work sixteen-hour days selling fried chicken, subs, and sodas — and still not always able to make ends meet. In high school, Mark went to work and delivered newspapers so his family could pay the mortgage, cover utility bills, and put food on the table.

He knew education could help him get ahead, so he went to HBCU Morgan State, took out loans to graduate from University of Maryland – Baltimore College, then earned an MBA from Loyola University.

Mark became the first Asian-American to serve in the Executive Branch of Anne Arundel County Government, then staffed a State Senator before being the first Asian-American elected to the Maryland House of Delegates from Anne Arundel County. Today, Mark serves us as the Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Committee.

Inspired by his own upbringing, Mark focuses on ensuring families have the resources to put food on the table. Once the kid who couldn’t afford school lunch, Mark works to invest in education and students in need of support. Mark and his family faced hate and discrimination growing up, which led to him to support legislation to address hate crimes and increase voter access.

Mark took action on the gun violence crisis and raised the security requirements for gun access. He supports building a cleaner and greener economy and voted for the Climate Solutions Now Act. And he is a strong supporter of abortion rights and has a 100% pro-choice voting record from Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

As our Member of Congress, Mark will continue to fight for progressive values and work for Maryland families.
