InfoStephen (Steve) Banton was born and raised in eastern Missouri. He graduated from Soldan High School in 1965 and Bowdoin College in 1969. He graduated from Washington University Law School in 1973 and Washington University Graduate Business School in 1974.

Steve served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and was an assistant prosecuting attorney for St. Louis County before going into the private practice of law. Steve taught at both Washington University School of Business and St. Louis University Business School.

Steve has been active in numerous civic organizations, including the Boy Scouts of America and Area-Wide Citizens Committee on Water Quality. He has been a volunteer and member of the Board of directors of Grace Hill Settlement House, Childhaven, New Horizon Center, College of Living, and St. Louis Art Museum.






Steve has been a member and active in several chambers of commerce and has served as president and legislative committee chairman of the St. Louis County League of Chambers of Commerce.

Steve has been an active member and has served as President of the Clayton Lions, Ballwin Metro-West Rotary, and West County Kiwanis.

Steve Banton has fought for and served Missourians from all walks of life for more than 20 years.

In 1977 Steve was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives to serve out the remaining term of G. Phillip Meier. In 1982 he was again elected to the Missouri House of Representatives. In his twelve years of service he succeeded in passing numerous pieces of legislation, including legislative efforts to build roads, toughen drug laws, secure taxpayers rights, reduce taxes, provide quality education and protect children from child molesters and abusers.

During his service in the Missouri House, Steve Banton has received numerous awards and honors including The Taxpayers Watch Dog Award for fighting tax increases and abuses in public spending.

Steve Banton has also received awards from the Westport Chamber of Commerce, the St. Louis County League of Chambers of Commerce, St. Louis Society for Medical and Scientific Education, The Bar Association of Metropolitan St. Louis, Washington University, Association for the Education of Youth and Children, Meramec Palisades Community Association, Clayton Lions, Missouri Education/Business Partners, Lafayette Community Association, National Federation of Pachyderm Clubs, and Ozark Area Council of American Youth Hostels.

Steve has served on the Rockwood School Board since 1996. During that time improving student achievement has been a top priority as well as developing a sound financial structure and system in Rockwood.

The Rockwood School District is accredited with distinction, has raised student achievement, has received budget control awards and has achieved the second highest bond rating of all school districts in Missouri.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

Stephen Chandler Banton was born in Missouri on February 19, 1947. His parents were heading west when a job opportunity resulted in settling in the St. Louis area.

Steve is active in the Episcopal Church and has served as a lay minister, chalice bearer, vestry member, and church treasurer. Steve accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at a Bill Gothard legislative conference in 1984. Steve is active in the Gideons and the Clayton Chapter of the Full Gospel Businessmen Fellowship International.

Steve is married to Linda Marie Banton. Steve and Linda met through a Christian dating group and were married November 2, 1996. Linda was born February 19, 1962. She grew up in the Hillsboro, Missouri area and graduated from Hillsboro High School. She was one of six sisters. Linda received her undergraduate degree in mathematics and secondary education from Southeast Missouri State University. She taught at Sacred Heart School in Festus before going to work for Von Hoffmann Press (the largest printers of textbooks) where she worked until she and Steve started their family. They have two children, a daughter, KateLynne Rose Banton who is six years old and a son who is less than a year old, Stephen Chandler Banton, II.
