Info | Martin FLINT was born on January 12, 1782 in Hampton, Windham,
Connecticut. He died on February 27, 1855 in Randolph, Orange, Vermont.
Genealogical Register of the Descendants of Thomas Flint of Salem. Complied
by John Flint and John H. Stone. Printed by Warren F. Draper, Andover,
Mass., 1860. p. 103.
Farmer; resided in Randolph, Vt., on the homestead.
The Flint Heritage - Wales to Iowa by Edwin W. Flint, Printed Privately at
Austin, Texas, 1984. p. 52 - 53.
Was three years old when his father moved his family to Randolph. He had
but very little education, as he had to take charge of his father's farm at a
very early age. In 1816 he lost the sight of his right eye. He was a
soldier in the war of 1812, and held a Lieutenants' commission in the Company
that went to Plattsburg, but who did not get there in time for the
engagement.
The prominent part of his career was during the anti-Masonic days. He was a free Mason himself, but renounced his connection with that Order, and fought it, "tooth and nail."
He was for four years elected to the State Legislature, (1831 - 1835) and in 1836 to the State Council. He received the appointment of Adjutant-General of the State Militia (hence his title, Gen. Flint), was Assistant Judge of the County Court for three years, and at one time refused the nomination for Governor at the hands of the dominant political party, giving as his reason, a lack of
liberal education. He was married to Assenath MORSE on October 6, 1812 in
Randolph, Orange, Vermont.
