Info | Arthur Mitchell is the Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party and a candidate in the riding of Copperbelt.
Mr. Mitchell became Leader in June, 2005 and was elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election held November 21, 2005.
He has served as the Leader of the Official Opposition and has held critic responsibilities for a variety of departments including the Executive Council Office, Economic Development, Environment, Finance, Health, Tourism and Culture and the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health and Safety Board.
Prior to entering public life Mitchell was a strong business and community leader. He owned the Atlin General Store for 26 years and has worked as the Executive Director of the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, as a business consultant, realtor and property developer. Mr. Mitchell was a founding partner in Waterfront Place Developments and Northern Vision Development Corp.
He is the former Alternate Chair of the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health & Safety Board and has also served as a board member and Finance Committee member of the Yukon Arts Centre Board. Mr. Mitchell has previously served for several years at the City of Whitehorse's Parks and Recreation Committee, including a year as chair.
A strong supporter of education, Mitchell volunteered for seven years for the Food for Learning Breakfast Program and is a former member of the Elijah Smith Elementary School Council.
Mitchell lives in the Copperbelt riding with his wife Nancy. They have two adult children who were born in Whitehorse.
