Info | Thomas M. Keane Jr. is a general partner of Murphy & Partners ("M&P") since 1994. He is a director of several companies in which M&P has made an investment, including:
Director of Little Tornadoes, Inc., an Internet development and consulting company;
Director of Ruxton Health Care Services, which owns and operates long-term care facilities; and
Director of Mosaica Education, Inc., a for-profit charter school management company.
Mr. Keane joined the M&P team in 1990 when he founded Legend Medical Services, Inc., an M&P portfolio company. He was executive vice president, chief financial officer and a director of Legend, which acquired and managed skilled nursing facilities. He was responsible for identifying, evaluating, pricing, negotiating and financing acquisitions and other investments, internal financial controls and management; assisting in monitoring of operations, investor relations, and overall business and financial strategy.
Prior to Legend,from 1987 to 1989, Mr. Keane provided financial and business consulting to a variety of businesses in the fields of retail sales, radio broadcasting, magazine publishing and substance abuse rehabilitation. Services for clients included strategic and business planning; identifying, negotiating and structuring acquisitions; and financial analysis and modeling for startups and acquisitions.
From 1983 to 1987, Mr. Keane was vice president, chief financial officer and a director of International Health Care Corporation ("IHC"). IHC owned and operated seven freestanding substance abuse facilities, two health maintenance organizations and other health care businesses. Mr. Keane was a co-founder of the company and authored its business plan. He was responsible for all corporate acquisitions, divestitures and financings, new business development, all internal financial controls, general business planning and assisting in monitoring of the Company's operations. Through a series of five separate acquisitions, IHC grew from a startup to $100 million in annual revenues at the time of its sale in 1987.
Mr. Keane holds a J.D. from the University of Virginia Law School, Charlottesville, VA (1981) and a B.A. magna cum laude from Harvard College in Cambridge, MA (1978). He is a member of the Massachusetts Bar and was a Boston City Councilor for six years, from 1994 through 1999. He is a regular columnist for the Boston Herald. He is treasurer and a member of the board of trustees of the Boston Children's Theatre, a director of the Boston Society of Architects, and a member of the editorial board of ArchitectureBoston.
