InfoI am a native Georgian, born in Atlanta and raised in Cobb County. My father was a preacher-turned-teacher and mother was a registered nurse, who also spent a number of years teaching in her profession. I have two younger brothers and a little sister which prevented me from being an only child, but forever sentenced me to being the oldest.

In 1979, I graduated from the University of Georgia, with a business degree, I spent the majority of my career in wholesale distribution, primarily packaging. At one time I was traveling eleven states and Puerto Rico developing distributors, training sales people and visiting all manner of manufacturing facilities supporting our distributors' customers. I missed my family because of the travel requirements that prevented me from being around to share my kids' activities during the week.

Road weary and looking for change, I entered the aeronautics industry as a logistics analyst in 1997. I brought with me a tenacious desire to wrestle with challenges, seek solutions that streamline processes and provide lower costs and better efficiency within the organization.

Along the way, my wife, Lori, and I have nurtured a family and have seen our three children enter the public school system in Cobb County. Through the ups and downs, late-night-last-minute projects, parent teacher conferences, PTA meetings, band concerts, choral presentations and other activities, we have been pleased with the majority of the people supporting our children's educational progress. Our two sons are graduated and attending Kennesaw State University. We have six more years until our youngest receives her diploma. With all that said, there have been occasions when speaking up and speaking out were required to keep the educational bureaucracy in check.

We live in North Cobb County. We benefit from the variety of offerings of the metro Atlanta area, but also enjoy the small towns and remaining country of north Georgia. Our roots are in Cobb, but our friends and family draw us from Clayton to Blakely, Augusta to Columbus, and along the Toccoa River, outside Blue Ridge, where my great-great grandfather, Jason, put down his roots in the mid 1800's. The home he built after the War for Southern Independence still stands to this day.

Since 1979 I have called myself a Libertarian. It helps others understand my political beliefs. In 1776, my ancestors fought in a revolution that was intended to stop taxation without representation. They committed themselves to fight against tyranny, in all its forms. The individual was sovereign and rights were inalienable. Property was everything, and defending it was to be expected. That is the legacy many of us inherited and the one I pray my children will embrace and pass on.

In politics, one learns that no party has the franchise on the best ideas, but, at the same time, too much power in one party increases the likelihood of closed minds on all sides. As a Libertarian, I deem it the citizen's right and duty to speak out against a political system that allows elected representatives to abuse power, yield to all manner of temptation and surrender to those special interests offering the largest campaign contributions. My favorite phrase in government is, "checks and balances." It implies the need for constant vigilance because we consent to be governed by mere mortals made of weak flesh.

There you have it. I am a Georgian, born and bred. I offer the experience of a business professional. I identify with parents and taxpayers who hold high expectations of just how small and limited government should be. Finally, because of my political bent, I hope to earn the right, when that day comes, to have the Gadsden Flag, the golden one with the snake on it, draped over my casket with the words, "Don't Tread On Me."
