Info | Born in Cleveland, Judge Slaby was raised in the city of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. He received his finance degree from the University of Akron and his juris doctor from the University of Akron School of Law.
In 1995, Judge Slaby was appointed to the Ninth District Court of Appeals by then Governor, now United States Senator, George Voinovich. Judge Slaby was then elected to a full term in November 1996. He has served as Presiding Judge of the Court of Appeals since January 2002. During his time on the bench, Judge Slaby has heard over 2000 cases. He has also been assigned by the Ohio Chief Justice to hear cases on the Ohio Supreme Court.
Before his appointment, Judge Slaby served as the Summit County Prosecuting Attorney. During his 15-year term as Prosecutor, he was active in drafting legislation and testifying before the State and Federal Legislature. He prosecuted several cases that gained national recognition, most notably Jeffrey Dahmer. During that time, he was also named Outstanding Prosecutor of the Year and received the Resolution of Honor Award and the Leadership Award from the Ohio Prosecuting Attorney Association. Judge Slaby also received the Leadership Award and the Presidents Award from the National District Attorneys Association.
Judge Slaby is active in professional organizations and numerous church and civic activities. He and his wife, Marilyn, reside in Akron and have three children: Marilynn, Melissa, and Chris.
