InfoBorn in Aberdeen, Dennis Schmidt moved to Rapid City at age 5. He was educated at Douglas School,
Ellsworth Air Force Base and the Rapid City public school system, graduating from Rapid City High
School in 1964.

After graduation, Dennis was employed by the Minuteman Missile Project at F.E Warren AFB,
Cheyenne, Wyo. He later transferred to the Aerospace Division of the Boeing Co. in Seattle and was
requested for the Apollo TIE program.

Dennis also attended Seattle Bible College and was licensed and ordained. He moved into family
counseling, worked as a motivational speaker for the American Indian summer youth camp on the
Olympic Peninsula, took positions as youth pastor, assistant, associate and senior pastorates in eastern
and western Washington.

Dennis has been married for more than 40 years to his high-school sweetheart, Toni (Frey), whom he
met while working as a management trainee for S.S. Kresge Co. in Baken Park. They have one
daughter, three sons and two grandsons.

Dennis also served for 10 years in Snohomish, WA., as a commissioned police officer. He developed an
effective public relations program connecting law enforcement with the Snohomish business community.
Schmidt presided over complex land use abatements, code enforcements, criminal offenses,
investigations, court summons and courtroom testimony.

Upon receiving national certification in crisis intervention and critical incident debriefing, Dennis
coordinated debriefing sessions after all critical incidents for the officers of the Snohomish City Police
Department and all of the firemen in the Snohomish County Fire District. He also established a
city-county chaplaincy program involving five local chaplains on 24-hour call. They provided immediate
response and intervention for families confronted by sudden unexpected death either suicide, sudden
infant death syndrome or accidental death.

After extensive training in criminal psychology and child abuse, Dennis acted as a victims' advocate,
assisting families who suffered traumatic loss of life, property or serious injury.

Early in the 1990s, Dennis returned with his wife and family to Rapid City. Now, a successful Rapid
City Rapid City Businessman, Schmidt embraces the opportunity to dedicate himself to his community,
representing in the South Dakota Legislature the values he built his life and family upon.

Dennis Schmidt's expansive education, comprehensive training and life experience have well equiped
him to serve his fellow citizens in District 33. He will face incumbent Sen. J.P. Duniphan in the
Republican primary and requests your vote on June 6th to grant him the privilege to serve as a
conservative voice in the South Dakota State Senate.
