InfoPolitician with a reputation for honesty who drifted from Left to Right over the course of a long and not especially successful career. A noted nationalist and opponent of the European Union.

Member of Parliament for various East End constituencies (Stepney, Stepney & Poplar, Bethnal Green & Stepney) 1964-1997.

Secretary of State for Economic Affairs (1967-1969), Secretary of State for Trade (1974-1976), Secretary of State for the Environment (1976-1979). Later held various Shadow positions until the mid '80's and then a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee. A member of the Committee on Standards in Public Life in the mid '90's. Faced down several deselection attempts in his ethnically diverse and factionally ridden constituency before finally retiring in 1997. Appointed a Life Peer and took the name Lord Shore of Stepney.
