| Info | Hello, I am Carlotta Harrell and I would like to be your next State School Superintendent of Georgia. I am a native of Atlanta. I was educated in the Atlanta Public School System and received my Bachelor Degree in Public Administration from Brenau University in Gainesville, GA.
I spent fifteen years in law enforcement in many facets doing my best to uphold the law and make your neighborhoods, schools and streets safe. I attended the Clayton County Regional Police Academy and The Georgia Police Academy were I received post certifications as a Police Officer, Probation/ Corrections, Drug Agent, and in Supervision. I have served and protected your neighborhoods, I have mentored and taught safety and drug awareness in your schools, and I have put drug dealers, sex offenders and other criminals behind bars.
I am a substitute teacher in the Public School System and currently employed with Delta Airlines. I have twelve years experience in supervision/management. I have been involved in policy development and implementation, curriculum planning and development, budgeting, training, grant writing and funding, and conflict resolution. I have worked with numerous non-profit groups, community groups and associations, and churches in the development of programs for youth at risk, creating schools, mentoring programs, tutorial and reading programs, summer enrichment programs with the vision in mind to make a difference in someone’s life or community. I am a board member of Higher Plain Community Development, Inc. (Finance Chair) and Step Up In Georgia, Inc. (Grant writing Chair); I am the PTA President for Red Oak Elementary School in Henry County. I am also a member of American Business Women Association (ABWA), National Council of Negro Women (NCNW), Henry County Chapter of the National Association Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and Delta Airlines Critical Incident Response Team (CIRP).
I reside in Henry County with my husband Kennis Harrell who is a Captain with Dekalb County Police Department and my nine-year old daughter Kereisha who is a fourth grader and High Honor Roll Student at Red Oak Elementary School. My oldest son Rashad is twenty-nine and a firefighter with Dekalb County Fire Department and my middle son Johnta’ is twenty-five and a successful songwriter and producer and will soon release his first solo album this fall. I must not forget my two precious grandsons Rashad Jr. and Kristopher. My family and I are members of The Greater Piney Grove Baptist Church in Decatur, GA., where Dr. William E. Flippin serves as pastor and where my husband and I serve on the Deacon and Deaconess Board.
