Info | (husband of Katharine Edgar Byron and father of Goodloe Edgar Byron), a Representative from Maryland; born in Danville, Pittsylvania County, Va., May 15, 1895; moved to Williamsport, Washington County, Md. with his parents in 1899; attended the public schools, Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, N.H., and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y.; during the First World War enlisted as a private in the Aviation Corps; commissioned a first lieutenant, and was assigned as an instructor in flying and in aerial gunnery; engaged in the leather manufacturing business in 1919; served as mayor of Williamsport 1926-1930; member of the State senate 1930-1934; member of the Maryland Roads commission in 1934 and 1935; elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-sixth and Seventy-seventh Congresses and served from January 3, 1939, until his death in an airplane crash at Jonesboro, near Atlanta, Ga.
