InfoAl began his family here in 1977 and has proudly watched it blossom into a loving 26-year marriage, four beautiful daughters and two grandchildren. Al believes with all his heart that his grandchildren deserve to inherit an America that is free, safe, prosperous and decent. Politics aside, this is what he is about.

For the last five years Al has been a key leader on a strategic national defense project supporting a program directed by the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The Chairman’s program uses an annual global exercise to evaluate new military computer, communications, command and intelligence-related technologies for both our military and our closest Allies. This year, the focus is Homeland Defense and the international coordination technologies necessary to defeat terrorist here, overseas, or in transit before they can strike America. Al’s extensive military experience is vital to leading the creation and execution of the exercise’s realistic scenario. This global exercise involves all military services, many federal agencies, and several allied nations. He will be based in the Washington DC area in June for the three weeks of this global exercise—despite the separation from his campaign, it is just too important.

Al believes that grand-fatherhood is his greatest earthly accomplishment. This would have been impossible without his wife‘s gift of four beautiful and talented children and her boundless nurturing love of them. Mary and Al have been married for 26 fascinating and eventful years. They certainly will be a dynamic team to represent the best of our community and its values.

Al is a retired Army Special Forces (Green Beret) Officer with 26 years of active and reserve service. He has served in mostly frontline elite units as an Airborne Infantryman, Intelligence Officer and Special Forces Officer. As a young man making the Dean’s list at Georgia Tech in 1972, Al volunteered to be a paratrooper. This was during the Vietnam War when many were avoiding being drafted. Unlike many, Al, when he received his draft number of 9, joined and voluntarily served his country—he has been doing so ever since. It was a family tradition that he refused to let lapse despite his stong personal desire to complete school. His greatest military achievement came shortly after retirement when he received a personal letter of commendation from General Henry H. Shelton, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Al Beverly has also served his community in the political sphere. He was a key volunteer and supporter for Robert Lamutt’s unsuccessful race for Congress in 1988. He won the contested Republican nominations for Congress (7th District) in both 1990 and 1992. In the ‘90 and ‘92 General Elections, he did not defeat the Democrat incumbent but he dented his armor and prepped him for the fall. In 1994 he was a Campaign Chairman for Bob Barr’s first successful race for Congress. Beverly’s dogged persistence from 1988 until 1994 was key to winning the first Republican victory in the 7th district since Reconstruction. Beverly has held multiple other Republican Party posts from Precinct Chairman up to Congressional district Vice Chairman. He was an early pre-primary endorser of Republican Phil Gingrey’s 2002 successful race for Georgia’s 11th District. Al is a team player who has effectively advanced the party and other Republican candidates, and he will do so as a Congressman, too.

Al graduated from Georgia Tech in 1978 with a Management degree; he has since obtained a Masters in Business. Besides his military career, Beverly has worked as a Senior Researcher at Georgia Tech Research Institute; had his own software and computer peripherals business; and built up a substantial multi-state property rental business. He has an entrepreneurial spirit and understands both its challenges and benefits. He knows that this spirit is what drives our economy, underpins our culture, and guarantees our freedom. He will fight for it against all destructive liberal incursions.

Al Beverly is first and foremost a husband and father to a wonderful family, dominated by women - five in total. Al's consolation is that, though totally outnumbered, he has had a home full of charming ladies led by a beautiful wife, Mary, who he first fell in love with at 16 when attending a high school honors seminar at Reinhardt College in Cherokee County. Definitely Al's most significant accomplishment is teaming with Mary. They were married in Cobb County in the Spring of 1977 and began building a lasting love and the foundation for a beautiful, vivacious family. Mary, his wife of 26 years, has been his partner in raising their four daughters: Jackie, Mary, Angela and Alison. Daughter Mary and her husband Eric have added to our family the immeasurable joy of two grandchildren. We expect there will be more in the future, if not from Mary and Eric, then eventually from the other three when they are married (three more weddings to pay for; this should guarantee the pity vote!)
