Matt Huffman was born and raised in Lima, Ohio. He is the 5th of 9 children of Lawrence and Shirley Huffman. He graduated from Lima Central Catholic High School in 1978. He earned his degree in Government from the University of Notre Dame (1982) and his Law Degree from the University of Cincinnati School of Law (1985).
Matt and Sheryl were married in 1984 and settled in Lima. Matt and Sheryl have four children: Clare (18), Matthew (16), Ellen (13) and Sam (10). Matt and Sheryl are active volunteers at St. Charles Church. They also belong to several community organizations including Heartbeat of Lima, the Junior Service League and the Knights of Columbus.
Matt was admitted to the Ohio bar in 1985, and has practiced law for the past 20 years in his family private practice law firm in downtown Lima. Matt is a partner at the firm of Huffman, Kelley, Becker & Brock in Lima, and has been admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Matt has argued cases in the Ohio Supreme Court, several appellate and trial courts, and various local and state administrative agencies. He is an "AV" rated attorney by the Martindale-Hubbell rating service, the highest rating an attorney can receive. In 1993 Matt represented the Lima School District in its successful fight to have Lima Senior High School reinstated into the State High School playoffs.
Matt began his service on Lima City Council in 1992. For the past seven years he has served as City Council President.
