InfoEmily Kreider became an Ohioan when she arrived at the Greyhound bus station in Columbus at the age of nine. The youngest of seven children, she has lived in central Ohio for most of her life. Her mother was a single parent who worked very hard to make ends meet. Through her mother's example, Emily learned to value hard work and responsibility. She chose to shape her future through education and perseverance.

After graduating from Whitehall-Yearling High School, she attended college with the help of a Federal Pell Grant and an Ohio Instructional Grant for low income students. After earning a B.A. in social work from Ohio Dominican University, she went on to earn an M.S.W. from the Ohio State University with the support of an Ohio Board of Regents Graduate Fellowship.

Emily began her professional life with Homeless Families Foundation developing and coordinating a program to prevent child abuse and neglect. At the same time, she continued studying in a post-graduate program for psychotherapists. Upon completion, she left Homeless Families Foundation to begin work at a private psychotherapy practice.

During the summer of 2001, she made a bold career change in the direction of small business ownership. For 2 years, Emily ran a specialty toy store focusing on products for child therapists and children with special needs. Currently, she owns and operates a consulting business, providing training and assistance for online entrepreneurs.

Barbara, Tim and Rachel
For 15 years, she has been married to Tim Kreider, whom she has known since high school. They have lived in Westerville for the past eleven years. Tim works as a business analyst for J.P. Morgan Chase. Tim and Emily have two children, Barbara and Rachel, who attend middle school in Westerville public schools. They are active members of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Westerville.

Giving back to our community has always been important to Emily. "Growing up, many people gave me the hand-up I needed to help me be the person I am today. I saw lasting examples of responsibility and accountability in my community." She has given her time and energy in public service through local organizations. Her first volunteer experience was at the Columbus Health Department in the HIV/AIDS clinic. Currently, Emily serves on the advisory board of the Ohio chapter of National Democrats for Life. She takes advantage of numerous service opportunities through Westerville Sunrise Rotary and the Westerville Chamber of Commerce.

Emily's dedication to hard work, her willingness to explore new ideas, and her knowledge of how public policy affects our communities make her the best choice to represent us in the Ohio Senate.
