InfoBorn in Mayfield, Bernie Kennedy, 63, has lived in Stroudsburg since 1985. He has been chair of the Monroe County Democratic Committee since 1999, a position he assumed after selling CorNet International, a Stroudsburg customer relations management system, that same year. Previously, Kennedy taught math in Morristown, N.J., and supervised technical support for Montgomery County public school system in Maryland. He also served in the military: one year at Fort Meade, Md., and another in Vietnam.

Kennedy also served on Stroudsburg's Borough Council for 12 years, four of them as president.

He graduated from Seton Hall University in math education and earned a master's degree in computer science from the University of Maryland.

Kennedy said that he serves on the boards of the YMCA, Meals on Wheels, the board for East Stroudsburg University's computer science department, and as an ambassador for the Pocono Medical Center. Since 1978, he and his wife, Nancy, have been presenting intensive weekend programs to help married couples improve their communication.

Bernie and Nancy Kennedy have been married since 1968. They have five sons: Kevin, 25, lives in Rhode Island, Timothy, 28, resides in Las Vegas, and Brian, 31, and Paul, 35, live in Stroud Township. Achenafi, 40, an Ethiopian refugee whom the family took in when he was 16, lives in Washington, D.C.
