InfoDavid Martin McIntosh

Through out his career as a congressman, aide to President Bush and Vice President Quayle, and now a professor at Ball State University, David has championed conservative principles of more freedom, lower taxes and stronger families. As a candidate for Governor, David developed a comprehensive plan for improving Indianas schools titled Kids First. His commitment to education made it the number one priority in his proposals for State government.

As a congressman, even before David was sworn in as a freshman Congressman in 1995, Newt Gingrich named him chairman of a new House subcommittee on regulatory relief. David fought regulations that harmed job-creating small businesses and Hoosier farmers.

Born on June 8, 1958, David was raised in the farming town of Kendallville, where he learned the Hoosier values that guide his life today. The oldest of four children, he learned at an early age the need to help his family after his father died of cancer.

David also worked in the Kendallville Foundry to put himself through Yale College, graduating with honors in 1980. Studying under future U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, he received a law degree from the University of Chicago in 1983. He co-founded the Federalist Society and currently serves as the group's national co-chairman. He is a member of the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court and the State Bar of Indiana.

When David was still in his 20s, President Reagan chose him to serve on his White House staff as a special assistant. David shares President Reagan's optimism about the future built on conservative principles and the confidence of the American spirit. In the Bush Administration, David worked for Vice President Quayle as his executive director on the Council on Competitiveness.

Today, David McIntosh lives in Muncie, Indiana, with his wife Ruthie and two young children, Ellie and David, Jr. He teaches in the Economics Department of Ball States School of Business. David also practices law part time with the Chicago law firm of Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw. He uses his experiences in Congress and working with Federal regulatory agencies to assist Hoosiers and Indiana businesses when they have a regulatory problem. David also continues to serve as the National Co-Chairman for the Federalist Society for Law & Public Policy the nations leading conservative legal organization.
