Info | Timothy J. Brien*, Polk County Recorder, was first elected county wide in 1986.
Mr. Brien is a native of Polk County, Iowa, whose family has lived in the Des Moines area since the early pioneer days. After graduating from Dowling Catholic High School and Loras College, Mr. Brien began his County Government career in 1974 where he served for 2 years in the Clerk's office. Mr. Brien's remaining 29 years of service have been in the Recorder’s Office.
During Mr. Brien’s administration, the office has been entirely computerized. In October, 1998, the Recorder’s Office began the process of scanning and imaging all documents presented for recording and now has available, records for viewing and printing on the internet, at no charge. In October, 2004, the Recorder's Office was the 1st in the State of Iowa to offer electronic recording of documents. The office was also the 1st in the State to offer online boat renewal in 2005. Mr. Brien and his staff continue to look for new ways to help better serve the public in the future and would like to hear your thoughts and opinions on how we can improve our office.
