InfoDebbie Wright Boyd is a sixth generation Floridian with deep agricultural roots in District 11. As a young girl, Debbie took tobacco off at half a penny a stick. Debbie was the first girl in the Newberry FFA and was also a Star Chapter Farmer. Debbie is a graduate of Newberry High School and Santa Fe Community College with degrees in General Education and Building Construction Management. She served thirty years with the University of Florida, Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (IFAS) as a Research Technician and Laboratory Manager. She is a Realtor, but is currently inactive due to the many hours she works as our State Representative.

Both the Boyd and Wright families have strong ties to agriculture, business, education, military, and civil service. This family history and Debbie’s diverse background were a natural foundation for public service.

When Debbie is not working for us, she enjoys spending time with her family and fishing on the beautiful Suwannee River. She and her husband Tommy have been married for 32 years and live on the family farm in Newberry.

Debbie served two terms on the Newberry City Commission and was the Mayor Pro Tem during her last year. During her tenure, she was an advocate of citizen input and a proponent of and involved in both the Newberry Community and the Alachua County-wide Visioning and Planning Processes. She was recognized for an agenda that embraced community planning with sufficient locations for businesses, encouraging economic growth and development, and employment opportunities for local citizens while maintaining the unique and historical characteristics of the area. Debbie was recognized for supervising the implementation of Newberry’s first website and cemetery kiosk.

In 2006, Debbie was elected to serve as our State Representative for District 11. Debbie prides herself on an open-mind, open-door policy and has gained the reputation as an accessible and responsive representative and legislator. These qualities along with her common sense, down-to-earth political style, have been critical in building consensus and addressing issues in the district and difficult budgetary and policy issues in Tallahassee. Her knowledge and aptitude of north central Florida have been critical to addressing the agricultural, economic, and social needs of our district.
