Info | He received a bachelor's degree in education from Duquesne University and a master's in rehabilitative counseling from West Virginia University. He has been a counselor at Western Penitentiary, and he was executive director of the Westmoreland County chapter of Pennsylvania Association for Retarded Citizens.
He took over Life Service Systems, a Greensburg nonprofit that provided housing for the mentally retarded. He turned around the financially troubled agency, he said. But his tenure ended badly.
In 1996, the board forced him out. In 1997, despite a $284,143 net worth, the board filed for bankruptcy. His adversaries blamed him for "rampant mismanagement." But a bankruptcy court trustee concluded that the agencies that took over LSS ran the organization into the ground.
He and three other businessmen formed ROAM Investments, a holding company with interests in real estate, product development and a design company. He stepped down as managing partner to run for political office.
