John served over thirty years in law enforcement holding positions from the line-level patrol officer to the police executive. His extensive law enforcement career culminated in being elected to Office as Sheriff for El Paso County, Colorado.
John's background allows him to offer an invaluable insight to the challenges of international and domestic terrorism and critical incident management that confront public safety officials at the state, federal, and local levels. He is a graduate of the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, Quantico, VA, and the FEMA Emergency Management Institute in Emmitsburg, MD. Career highlights include clearing the Heather Dawn Church kidnap/murder, the capture of the Texas Seven, and the successful Columbine High School Shooting reinvestigation.
After completing his second term in Office, John joined Lockheed Martin, the nation's largest aerospace defense contractor in Jan 2003 and today holds security clearances at the highest levels in government, and serves as a Homeland Security and Homeland Defense Subject Matter Expert. Of particular interest to John is the transference of advanced technologies from the DoD/IC to non-DoD entities, including; command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance technologies to enhance the capabilities of those on the front line in War on Terrorism in order to strengthen the defense and security of the United States.
