InfoI am 62 years of age. I have, to this point, held no public elective office.

I will have been married to my wife, Carolyn, for 39 years on Jun 10, 2006.

We have been residents of Ohio since 1968.

We have three grown children. Matthew 33, Erin 31, and Jason 26. All graduated from Beavercreek High School and Ohio State University. We have three grandchildren and expect two more soon.

My wife and I are Christians. We are members of the Beaver United Church of Christ and attend every week. We are active in the church and I serve on the church governing board.

I completed a BS (1967) and MS (1968) in Aeronautical Engineering from Purdue University.

I enlisted in the US Air Force at age 19 in October 1963. I was commissioned four years later and retired in October 1983 as a Major.

Since my Air Force retirement, I have worked for several defense contractors, primarily doing software development. I have been self employed on several occasions and engaged in either contracted software development or software development for subsequent sale. I am currently employed by the Ben Graham Corporation. I maintain and improve the Graham Business Process Software which I developed (along with another individual) in 1989. I also market a project management system which I developed.

In 1975, I took the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The GRE is similar to the SAT but for college graduates. On the Mathematical Reasoning test, I received a perfect score of 800. I think it illustrates my ability to quickly recognize the essential elements of a problem, formulate an approach to the solution, and solve it. My approach to real life problems is to go at them objectively and honestly and formulate a solution. If someone else proposes an improvement on my solution or a better solution altogether, we go with the best solution. I do not accept hidden agendas or other deceit as any part of the process. If someone stands in the way of the solution, I take him on.
This talent will be very important in Congress where deceptive language and, particularly, deceptive numbers are an everyday occurrence. (Visit the FairTax web site for an example of massive deception.) I think that many Congressmen are intimidated by the shear volume of deceptive numbers they receive from lobbyists, the executive branch and other Congressmen. I will quickly point out deceptions and the deceivers. After I called him on his deception, a co-worker once said, "You can't blame a guy for trying." I said, "I can and I do." I found that, when it became known that I didn't accept deception, people were more honest with me.

Regarding the other parts of the GRE, I received a 760 in Engineering and a 630 in Verbal Aptitude.

My engineering aptitude and 20 years of experience give me additional perspective and capability which is uncommon in Congress.

In the Air Force, I moved from job to job every four years or sooner. In my case, it usually involved a totally new line of work. In contract work after my AF retirement I followed a similar pattern. I often went from the new guy to the pace setter in quick order. I also got into more than my share of trouble due to my dedication to integrity and ethics.
