Info | WINGATE, Paine, a Delegate, a Senator, and a Representative from New Hampshire; born in Amesbury, Mass., May 14, 1739; graduated from Harvard College in 1759; studied theology and was ordained a minister of the Congregational Church in 1763, holding a pastorate in Hampton Falls, N.H., until 1776; moved to Stratham, N.H., in 1776 and engaged in agricultural pursuits; member of the State constitutional convention in 1781; member, State house of representatives 1783; Member of the Continental Congress in 1788; elected to the United States Senate and served from March 4, 1789, to March 3, 1793; elected to the Third Congress (March 4, 1793-March 3, 1795); member, State house of representatives 1795; judge of the superior court of New Hampshire 1798-1809; withdrew from political life and resumed agricultural pursuits; died in Stratham, N.H., on March 7, 1838, being the last survivor of the Continental Congress; interment in Stratham Cemetery.
